PanIQ!

In a comment on Pyrasun 2.0 - The Spille Blog: Action Hippo Rangers!:

Ha! As the population of the world increases, the sum of its IQ remains a constant.

Great article on what seems now to be called ping-pong development, or “how to surf on technologies”.

Quizz again...

You cannot stop Marie, aka “the girl with fire in her socks”:

Your Element Is Fire
Your passion and emotion are as obvious as the brightest flame. You make sparks fly, and your passion always has the potential to burst out. You are exciting and creative - and completely unpredictable. You sometimes exercise control, and sometimes you let yourself go. Friends describe you as sensitive, spirited, and compulsive. Bright and blazing with intensity, you seem mysterious and moody to many.

You Are Socks!
Cozy and warm... but easily lost. You make a good puppet.

Mono intelligence

Marie & I:
Your Dominant Intelligence is Linguistic Intelligence
You are excellent with words and language. You explain yourself well. An elegant speaker, you can converse well with anyone on the fly. You are also good at remembering information and convicing someone of your point of view. A master of creative phrasing and unique words, you enjoy expanding your vocabulary. You would make a fantastic poet, journalist, writer, teacher, lawyer, politician, or translator.

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.
DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.
DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan.
DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.
DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer". More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time...

Useless virtual presence

Statement of Audience
I realize that nothing I say matters to anyone else on the entire planet. My opinions are useless and unfocused. I am an expert in nothing. I know nothing. I am confused about almost everything. I cannot, as an individual, ever possibly know everything, or even enough to make editorial commentary on the vast vast majority of things that exist in my world. This is a stupid document; it is meaningless drivel that I do not expect any of the several billion people on my planet to actually read. People who do read my rambling, incoherent dumbfuckery are probably just as confused as I am, if not moreso, as they are looking to my sorry ass for an opinion when they should be outside playing Frisbee with their dog or screwing their life partner or getting a dog or getting a life partner. Anyone who actually takes the time to read my bullshit probably deserves to ingest my fucked up and obviously mistaken opinions on whatever it is that I have written about.

Go dumb

"A Japanese researcher, Akio Mori, from the Nihon University's College of Humanities and Sciences, claims to have found a link between the playing of video games and the balance of activity in the brain. It is also claimed that this effect can cause behavioural changes, such as lack of concentration, difficulty with social association, and short temper. These effects are also thought to be, to some extent, nonreversible."

A bit of Alpha Malehood...

On "Halley's Comment": Alpha Male Links -- Lessons 1 through 18 (via "Joi Ito's Web": Hey, Halley, Here I Am).

Hum... This is really funny, sometimes sad... sometimes true (from my point of view). But at the end, I think this is too easy to say that, I mean life is far more complex, far more contextual.

Here is an excerpt, to laugh a bit:

We were surely leaving a "I Wanna Girl Just Like The Girl That Married Dear Old Dad." era, to a "I Married A Girl Just Like Dear Old Dad And She's Got A 7:30 Board Meeting." Yes, it was no more "Hi, Honey, I'm Home. What's For Dinner" but rather "Hi Honey, I'm Home And Of Course I Picked Up Junior From Daycare And Got Take-Out Chinese Because You''ll Be Glued To The Computer All Night Doing That Excel Spreadsheet You Didn't Get Done Last Night When I Wanted To Have Sex, But, Oh Yeah, I Remember, We Don't Have Time For That Anymore."

This one from How To Become An Alpha Male -- Lesson 16: Power Play: for me, this is the part of the essay to be too simple... reality is more fine grained, a complex social grid of inter-relations.
I am now looking for an “Alpha Girl”...

Bork Bork Bork!” [Google in “Bork, bork, bork!”], Klingon [Google in Klingon], “Personal Syndication” – but I would add: “Elmer Fudd's wanguage” [Google the way of Elmer Fudd], “Hacker's L4|\|GU4G3” [Google the way of Hacker], Pig Latin [Google in Pig Latin]; and we must not forget the “geek code” and the “blogger code” to be more accurate and straightforward with personal syndication) could help us progress faster in the search for extraterrestrial intelligences; what we have to do is just use the good words through SETI:

bork bork bork, borg, blog!

A new popularity indicator from Google

Doc Searls discovered after a typo mistakes that for Google “O” stands for “O'Reilly”. Because each discover leads to a development in the blog world: in a special section of ChangeMedia you can find what is called now “the Google alphabet” (developed with the Google Web APIs).

Today, according to this alphabet, “L” stands for “Europa” ("Europa - The European Union On-Line"). But if you use Google carefully, you will find that in french, «L» stands for "LEXPRESS.fr"... it would be really cool if this script could take into account the language of the alphabet...

French cultural theorists and DVD

Via "megnut.com": “A nice po-mo chuckle”:
In "Kieran Healy's Weblog": “Betrayed by Consumerism”:

On opening a DVD box:

(...) Can you imagine the fun that French cultural theorists could have with an event like this? E.g., Baudrillard:

The DVD is a simulacrum of the movie, which in turn is a simulacrum of the real. Yet here is a new phase in postcapitalist hypersignification, the fourth-order representation of reality where the signifying link has been broken. The simulation seduces but its outcome is not the doubling of representation but rather the natural tendency of hypercapitalism to eliminate the very possibility of representation.

Or maybe Lacan:

In the empty DVD, we see the externalization of the negation of the desire for wholeness. The desired-for fusion with the world that consumption represents is here inverted and its reality is brutally reversed as the hole in the self becomes the emptiness in the box. Jouissance is directly rather than subliminally denied as desire is focused on its tangible absence and not simply, as it always is, on its intangible presence. The chain of signifiers is broken at its strongest link.

Actually, I think I agree with Lacan. The central bargain of consumer society is that the feeling that one’s life is meaningless can temporarily be alleviated by buying things. It’s me who’s supposed to be empty inside, dammit, not the DVD.

April Fools

I did not post on the 1st of April, I was too busy.
But Jim O'Connell from Wirefarm.com made a hilarious “parody” of Joi Ito's Web. I love especialy the Pope entry:

Brunch with the Pope [ Po-Blogging ]

Had brunch with the Pope this morning at St. Peter's in Rome. I set him up with a Movable Type blog and started to explain how blogging could possibly replace the sacrament of confession, if we could somehow just arrange a trackback ping to God.
He was a bit unconvinced, but after seeing a few blogs, he realized that more sins are confessed on a typical blog than in any confessional booth.
I started to explain that the Apostles were a lot like bloggers but he just kept bugging me to ride my Segway. When I finally let him take a spin around the square, he wound up crashing it into a statue and DENTED it.
Damn.
It's like 3 days old and the old geezer dented it. (Oh, I think he may have broken a hip, too.)

But take a look at the website, there are photos!
