DELL LATITUDE D600 on Linux: quick bookmarks
Finally I got my new computer! Yes... A beautiful DELL LATIDUDE D600!! I think I will find time to write a series of “making-of”, just to be able to install again this new system on Linux the next time I will have the idea to reformat the harddisk...
All does not work for the moment, the biggest problem being the Intel AGP chipset which seems unsupported on the Linux 2.4.20 kernel; result: XFree86 4.3.0 DRI (Direct Rendering Infrastructure) acceleration is not used, then for example OpenGL tests are performing at least 10 times slower than expected for an ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000!
Essential resources in order to be able to exploit this computer on Linux:
- "Linux on Laptops", with a special section for DELL computer;
- TuxMobil: Linux on Centrino(TM) Laptops;
- "Nobu's World", "d600" category;
- "Linux on a Dell D600";
- "marlow.dk - Marlow@home" - Dell Latitude D600;
- Debian Linux on Dell Inspiron 600m
(it seems to me that the Dell Inspiron 600m is a cross-over between the new Inspiron series and the professionnal Latidude D series).
Much more to come this year... But for the moment: work, work and work!!
